We all want it. We want to be loved, appreciated, respected, and considered a priority to the ones we love. Unfortunately, life has a tendency to grow us from the juvenile notion that people are going to love us the way we love them. We learn that things aren’t always as good as they seem and that sometimes, what we want isn’t always what we need.As I wrote these lines, one thing covered me with certainty: I had everything I needed in those moments. Yes, I wanted things to get easier. Yes, I wanted someone to connect with me emotionally. I wanted the firm and gentle assurance of a man that appealed to me spiritually and physically. That in addition to the love of my children seemed to be the picture of perfection to me. But, I thank God that I had nothing I wanted and everything I needed.God became my everything. Worship became my refuge. The confusion, hurt, and anger that I felt for all those who betrayed and abandoned me grew into an appreciation for accelerated maturity and growth. God restored the years of stunted growth. I learned the power in being alone and through time God revealed to me the healing power of unconditional love.
